Vacuums cleaners have come out of the closetand are living a happy family life, at least the vaccums owned by Danny Walker in Abingdon, England.
Walker, 28, admitted he gets bored while vacuuming, and decided to give his "Henry" - a vacuum model produced by British company Numatic that dresses up the average hoover with cartoon eyes and a smile - a life of its own.

"I thought 'everyone loves Henry Hoover,'" Walker told Caters News Agency, regarding the immensely popular vacuum model. "So I decided to take him on little adventures and get people wanting to see what he'll end up doing next."
Walker began posting pictures of the adventures to Facebook about two years ago, showing the vacuum in a variety of situations. He works at a brewery, and the vacuum can be seen hopping on beer trucks, posing with his kids' Christmas presents, and even traveling with a family of its own. Numatic makes a pink, "female" vacuum called a "Hetty," and the brand's popularity has led the company to produce "Little Henry" toys. "Little Henry" enjoys trips to the park with his "father" and other family outings in many of Walker's photos.

Taking pictures of a family of Hoovers in a small town like Abingdon raises eyebrows, but Walker says his Facebook fans-which number in the thousands-are worth the effort.
"People would say 'here comes hoover boy,' and some of the looks I have had in the past were priceless," he said. "But the Baby Hoover fans need their daily dose so it's always worth it."

New study finds natural oil dispersion mechanism for deep-ocean blowout
New study finds natural oil dispersion mechanism for deep-ocean blowout
EnlargeRupture at the Macondo job site taken at 4,840 feet June 3, 2010. Oil mixed with gas spewed into the Gulf of Mexico. Credit: BP footageA first-of-its-kind study observed how oil droplets are formed and measured their size under high pressure. They further simulated how the atomized oil spewing from the Macondo well reached the ocean's surface during the Deepwater Horizon accident. The findings from the University of Miami (UM) Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science and University of Western Australia research team suggest that the physical properties in deep water create a natural dispersion mechanism for oil droplets that generates a similar effect to the application of chemical dispersants at oil spill source.
"These results support our initial modeling work that the use of toxic dispersants at depth should not be a systematic oil spill response," said Claire Paris, Associate Professor of Ocean Sciences at the UM Rosenstiel School. "It could very well be unnecessary in some cases."
The research team from C-IMAGE (Center for the Integrated Modeling and Analysis of the Gulf Ecosystem) conducted eight experiments to simulate different pressures of oil from a blowout at depth. The oil was placed in a high-pressure chamber, called a sapphire autoclave, and monitored using a high-speed, high-resolution camera to evaluate how droplets form at varying turbulent conditions.
"This is the first time that we've been able to visually monitor how droplets break up and coalesce at up to 120 times atmospheric pressure," said Zachary Aman, associate professor of mechanical and chemical engineering at the University of Western Australia. "When paired with the high pressures and flow rates of Macondo, the results suggest a natural mechanism by which oil is dispersed into small droplets."
The results of the laboratory experiment were applied in a field-scale simulation under the same physical conditions that existed during the Macondo well blowout. In the computer simulation, the team tracked the oil released at a constant rate of 1000 oil droplets every two hours at a depth of 300 meters above the Macondo well, corresponding to the depth of the observed deep plume, from April 20 to July 15, 2010, when the Macondo well was capped; droplets were tracked for an additional 24 days after the cap was in place.
Based on the experimental data and modelling, the researchers suggest that the use of chemical dispersants may have reduced the mean oil droplet diameter from about 80 to 45 um, which would have reduced the amount of oil reaching the surface only by up to 3%. The model simulations showed that if the blowout occurred in shallow water conditions, or at a smaller rate of hydrocarbon release, dispersant may have had a more significant impact on the oil flowing from the well.
Simulation of the Deepwater Horizon blowout based on oil-in-water experimental data: distribution of oil mass in the water column? at day 60, assuming no injection of dispersant at the wellhead. We note that the highest oil concentration (red) remain at depth. Diluted oil by 5-25 folds, reaches the surface as far as 200 km downstream from the response zone of the accident. Credit: C-IMAGEThe research paper, entitled "High-pressure visual experimental studies of oil-in-water dispersion droplet size," will be published in the May 4 edition of the journal Chemical Engineering Science and is currently available in the online edition.

Is Bagged Or Bagless Better For You? by Claude Whitacre
Originally all vacuum cleaners were bagless. All vacuum cleaners simply used a cloth bag to contain the dust and dirt. They leaked dust and odors, but they were much better than having nothing at all. Then paper bags were introduced to dramatically cut down on the dust. The paper bags were a big improvement because they cut down n the odors stored in the cloth outer bag, and the filth and dirt could be thrown away without a dust cloud forming above the vacuum cleaner.
About 1985 the bagless vacuum cleaner became popular. Originally, bagless vacuum cleaners had a distinct advantage over bagged vacuum cleaners. The HEPA filter that all bagless vacuum cleaners have stops almost all the dust and odors from leaking out the vacuum cleaner exhaust. The good news was that the HEPA filters stopped dust from spewing out. The bad news is that the clogged up rapidly. They clogged faster if the air had high humidity or if you were picking up pet hair. The pet dander sticks to the filter and restricts air flow. The slowing air flow is also what cooled the motor. The motors in bagless vacuums tend not to last as long as bagged vacuum cleaners because of this restricted airflow to the motor in bagless vacuum cleaners.
We have a retail store selling vacuum cleaners and filters in Wooster Ohio. The two main reasons people ask us about bagless vacuum cleaners is: 1) They want to save money on bags, or 2) They want less dust. Bagless vacuums need a HEPA filter to stop the dirt. These filters are very effective. They also need to be changed at least once a year (more often if you have small children or pets) and, they aren't cheap, $29 - $59 each. It is impossible to spend as much for paper bags. High filtration paper bags may cost you a dollar or two each. You will spend less money on the bags than for the bagless filters, even if you change the bags frequently.
Less dust? Do you have trash cans at home? Do you use trash can liners? Why? Because it's far more sanitary when you throw out the liner instead of dumping the can with all the dust being thrown into the air. Most high end vacuum cleaners now use micron filtration bags along with a HEPA filter at the exhaust of the vacuum cleaner. The micron filtration bags offer excellent filtration, and they don't clog up and restrict airflow like the HEPA filters in bagless vacuum cleaners. The HEPA filter at the exhaust takes much longer to get dirty because the dirt is trapped in the high filtration paper liner.
Less expensive vacuum cleaners are almost all bagless. The profit is in the filters, not the disposable vacuums. The higher end vacuum cleaners almost all use high filtration inner bags.
If you have pets, the pet dander is what sticks to the bagless HEPA filters. We also recommend to pet owners that they use a vacuum cleaner with a charcoal filter to trap and neutralize the pet odors. Also, natural fiber brushes on your vacuum cleaner's roller brush will not trap the pet hair in the roller.

How Do Steam Vacuum Cleaners Work?
Assuaging Arizona's Ailing Air
HafcoVac manufactures superior high quality compressed air industrial vacuums for heavy responsibility industrial cleaning and materials restoration. For cleansing giant areas, trip-on and stand-up variations would show only, for smaller spaces, an upright vacuum cleaner would make the more good selection and for situations that decision for mobility, a back pack vacuum cleaner would do the job.
A giant advantage with using bagged vacuum cleaners is that the air in a bagged machine has much less distance to travel and so doesn't put as much strain on the motor of a vacuum cleaner as maybe a bagless model.

For many years after their introduction, vacuum cleaners remained a luxurious item, however after the Second World Warfare, they became common among the many center courses Vacuums tend to be more frequent in Western countries because in most different components of the world, wall-to-wall carpeting is rare and houses have tile or hardwood floors , that are simply swept, wiped or mopped manually without power help.
Your primary industrial vacuum cleaner will make an environment friendly fist of any regular cleaning utilizing larger powered motors and increased bag capability to clear up mud and dirt in report time.
Air and dirt are sucked at excessive pace into the gathering vessel at a course tangential to the vessel wall, creating a fast-spinning vortex The mud particles and different particles move to the outside of the vessel by centrifugal power , the place they fall as a result of gravity.
The upright vacuum cleaners are highly effective vacuum cleaners and have more power than the canister vacuums. Householders also needs to determine on the vacuum cleaner based mostly on their suction capability and how mild they are. Vacuum cleaners work by using air suction to select up dust and dirt which is then deposited into the vacuum bag. Vacuum luggage filter out debris from the air path in order that the motor does not get broken. Vacuum baggage must be modified repeatedly with a view to improve the efficiency of the vacuum cleaner. They should be modified before they are completely full and this is usually indicated by a lightweight on the vacuum cleaner.
There are even some vacuums that may have a double chamber canister so that there's even higher safety from getting your hands dirty or getting any grime on the floor if you remove it from the vacuum cleaner.
Vacuum cleaner salesman hero makes autistic boy's dream come true - Grand Rapids Holidays
A vacuum cleaner salesman doesn't top most people's list of children's birthday party entertainers. But he does for 14-year-old autistic Dylan Green. Fox2 Now reported Jan. 20 that a Kirby vacuum salesman gave Dylan his heart's desire demonstrating a vacuum at his birthday party. And the viral story is becoming the internet's feel-good news of the day.
Since babyhood, Dylan has been obsessed with vacuums--how they work, look, operate--says mom Jodie. He's the family Vacuum Commander-in-Chief and Team Kirby in brand loyalty. So mom figured well, it's a non-traditional party theme. But so what? Nowhere in the rulebook does it say "thou shalt have clowns at parties" or "boy parties must be sports-themed."
So she contacted Kirby and asked for a salesman to give a demo for the birthday boy. Jodie made it clear that A) she wasn't buying a vacuum but also B) she wasn't asking for anything free. She offered to pay a Kirby rep to come out. Or, she suggested, perhaps a newbie needed to practice his sales pitch. She ended, touchingly, saying it was an odd request but autism made it hard was for her to to find things Dylan liked.
Well, Kirby responded handsomely. They sent Al Archie, demo vacuum and free logo T-shirt, ball cap and goodies. Dylan was delighted and so was Archie. A friendship was forged as the two bent heads over the vacuum. But wait, there's more. Archie, from his own money, presented Dylan with a Kirby vacuum (no cheap gift!). It was a momentous for the boy as getting a new car! Please pass the tissues.
It's not unusual for special needs kids to hyper-focus on one niche subject. It helps make difficulties more manageable. TJ Elevator Fan is a boy with CP and other health difficulties and the world's greatest authority on elevators. So maybe vacuums are a "weird" fascination. Who's to judge? Any hobby is strange to the uninitiated.
Most kids's heroes aren't vacuum salespersons. To some they're even a nuisance. But for Dylan, Archie was as good as Justin Bieber, One Direction, Magic Johnson. And that had to feel pretty grand.

WDTV.COM 5 News: Angie's List: Vacuum Cleaners
Whether you spent $200 or $2,000 on your vacuum, you want it want it to perform well each time you pull it out of the closet. That means knowing how to use all of its features and accessories.
"Taking a few minutes to understand the different parts of your vacuum is going to be important because you don't want to damage your floor. For example, the beater bar, which is right here in the front of the sweeper, is actually not good for hard surface floors, nor is it good for the more gentle fabric in oriental rugs. In that situation, you want to use one of the other attachments." Angie Hicks, Angie's List.
"On hardwood flooring you definitely want to use the hard floor attachment. The beater brush, if you use it a lot of the period of time, can eventually start to wear out the floors and wear out the finish. Almost all rug companies will tell you not use the beater brush on there because rugs are made of thousands of little threads and the beater brush will loosen these threads and eventually start to pull them up and all that money you spend on the rug just goes to waste because the rug can't be fixed at that point." Matthew Miller, Professional Cleaner.
You should regularly empty canisters, replace bags and clean or replace filters on your vacuum, but after months or years of regular use, your machine may require some repair work. If you're losing suction or your beater bar isn't moving, you might want to have it checked out. Your main goal is to protect the motor from burning out and needing to get a brand new machine.
"An older generation vacuum cleaner can still be a great vacuum cleaner. One member, for example, had a broken vacuum cleaner and took it to the vacuum shop because it was making a smoking smell and found out it was a $1.50 repair and a 5-minute job." Angie Hicks, Angie's List.
If you are shopping for a new vacuum, there's the age-old question: bag or bagless?
"The biggest advice that I would have is get a vacuum that takes a bag that is the single most important thing. It helps protect the motor. Having that first layer of filtration is important. With a bag vacuum, you change the bag every two months or so depending on use... where with the bagless, you have to empty that cup every time you use it. It actually is more cost effective to use a bag machine." Kurt Chavez, Vacuum Sales Service.
With proper maintenance, a good vacuum should last as long as 10 to 20 years, so don't assume you need a new one just because it's old. Repairing instead of replacing could save you hundreds of dollars.

Information about Vacuum Cleaner Parts and Accessories
Vacuum cleaners are commonly used to clean a variety of things. This article talks about the parts it is made up of and its basic working principle.
Vacuum cleaners work on the principle of suction. It uses an air pump to create a vacuum inside the pipe, which results in the sucking up of air from the atmosphere. The air, along with it, brings in the dirt and dust from the floors or carpets.
Parts
Intake Embrasure - The intake port should be narrow for efficient suction of dust particles. As the speed of a vacuum cleaner is fixed, the volume of air passing through it in a certain duration of time would also remain constant. Irrespective of the size of the intake embrasure, the number of particles that go inside the machine remain the same, but, if the port is made smaller, the air particles will move faster, hence, the speed increases and the pressure decreases at a given place. The decrease in pressure leads to a greater suction force at the opening of the intake embrasure, and this enables it to suck heavier particles and perform better cleaning.
Exhaust Embrasure - This is the opening through which air enters the vacuum cleaner. It should be noted that, the air that enters the machine is dust-filled, and the dust particles are then emptied into the vacuum bag.
Electric Motor - The motor uses a magnet to create motion. Magnetic theory says that, like poles repel and unlike poles attract, therefore, inside the motor the forces of attraction and repulsion create a rotational motion.
Fan - The rotating fan creates a stream of moving air, which moves through the intake port and goes out of the exhaust embrasure. The air particles, when they move, create a frictional force between the dust particles and the air particles, hence, if the friction is strong enough and the dust particles are light, they are carried away by the moving air.
Bag - Once the dust is sucked inside, it is accumulated in a porous bag. Air passes through the bag, which has pores big enough to let the air particles pass through, but retain the dust particles. These bags act as air filters. They are made of porous materials like cotton or paper.
In a nutshell, the motor works when it gets the supply of electricity. Since it is attached to the fan that has blades like a propeller, the fan rotates and the air is forced towards the exhaust port. The density simultaneously increases in front of the fan and decreases behind the fan. The drop in pressure creates the suction that is required to pull the ambient air, along with the dust particles present. The air pressure inside the vacuum should be lower than the pressure outside, only then the air pushes itself through the intake post.
Blower
A vacuum cleaner can also act like a blower, which can blow the dry leaves off your garden or dust off your cupboard. This is made possible by not creating suction. Therefore, with its process reversed, the cleaner acts like a blower.

Riccar Pristine Canister Best Vacuum Cleaner Review
The engine all through the canister is more powerful compared to engine in an upright vacuum. The canister vacuum engine is acknowledged getting a Flow-Through motor, meaning the fact that oxygen travels in an amazingly straight collection through the moror after which out the exhaust. Upright vacuum cleaners us a bypass motor. Meaning the fact that oxygen should holiday near to the engine to exhaust out the back. this could be much less effective compared to canister motor. this could be why canister vacuums have an awesome offer more suction. It ought for getting noted that there are upright vacuums that really use a canister design motor. The Riccar uprights almost exclusively use this type of engine also.
The canister vacuums also typically possess a quieter motor, anticipated in the direction of seem insulation near to the motor. The Riccar Pristine product consists of a pretty quiet motor, which enables it to really be adjusted to differ the suction power.
The canister alone is acknowledged getting a sleek design and design permitting for ease of use near to corners. The bumper is rubber and definitely surrounds the vacuum. The bottom belonging in the direction of vacuum has 4 swivel castor wheels to permit complete maneuverability. The bottom can be polished to permit a smooth surface. With even the thickest shag carpet, the Pristine will roll simply throughout the carpet.
Where the Riccar Pristine exhibits correct benefits is all through the energy nozzle, the element which has the revolving brush, and sweeps the carpet. The belt that drives the roller brush is cored with metal cables, an awesome offer like radial tires. this could make the belt almost unbreakable.
The roller brush alone is stainless metal with sealed ball bearings on every one finish off belonging in the direction of roller.
The brushes are natural fiber, and will comb through even the thickest carpet. as a end result of the simple fact the brush bristles are straight, puppy mind of hair tends to not get caught all through the roller brush.
The energy nozzle will instantly adjust to any height of carpet, but has adjustments in situation the carpet is unusually thick, or even the operator finds the energy nozzle difficult to push or pull.
The energy nozzle consists of a thick rubber bumper that safeguards it in opposition to bumps and bruises.
The extension wands are metal and will extend or shorten to suite any user.

James Dyson hated vacuum cleaners that didn't suck. Rather than modifying the traditional bag vacuum, he ripped off the bag and built a cyclone that attached to the vacuum. More than 5,000 prototypes attempts later, he had the best vacuum cleaner in the world.
I'm old enough to remember when there were vacuum cleaner repair shops. We don't fix old appliances any more, we buy new ones because the new ones are better and cheaper and have a whole bunch of new features. Sometimes innovation beats repair.
Michelle Rhee wants to fix U.S. education. Digital Learning Now wants to reinvent it.
The 10 recommendations in Digital Learning Now are aligned with Rhee's agenda but make the case for the expanded opportunity of innovation.
She wants to fire bad teachers and make schools work better. Digital Learning Now wants anywhere anytime learning.
She wants more charter schools. Digital Learning Now wants public funding to follow kids to the best learning option.

She wants to bust bureaucracy. Digital Learning Now wants funding that promotes achievement, completion and innovation.
Fix or replace? The answer is both. The United States is rapidly falling behind the rest of the industrial world. We need to work inside and outside the system. We need rapid reform and reinvention.
The Rhee-form agenda is important -- better evaluation, more charters, less bureaucracy --but it focuses on cleaning up a system that can't do what we need it to do. The American education system -- based on age-cohorts sitting in rows studying print for 180 days -- is obsolete. We need schools that work better for students and teachers -- schools that engage students and extend and accelerate learning.
It's clear that we need a new employment bargain in education. But let's compare two approaches -- buy it or build it. As illustrated in Denver and DC, it may cost billions to buy our way in to a new employment bargain in urban education. It will be faster and cheaper to build new options with differentiated (i.e., different levels) and distributed (i.e., different locations) staffing and a new front loaded performance-based compensation strategy. Create options -- let families decide. Close struggling schools -- replace them with efficient blends of online and onsite learning.
The "fix" will help but won't create the education system American needs. We need Digital Learning Now.
